A rough day...

with nothing to complain about.

Spence has been out of town, so it has been me with the fab 5 home during summertime, as in, home, no school.  All five.  We've been fine, but Mommy needs a break sometimes.  I guess I get to go run at the rec. center after they're in bed tonight.
Anyways, the rough part: took J. to the Christmas Box House children's shelter this morning to have some paperwork signed for his Eagle Project.  The director there was so great!  She gave us a wonderful overview of what they do and the children they take in.  Abused, neglected, abandoned by those who should love them most.  She took us on a tour to see what they do and how.  We met some of the staff and children.  Just rip my heart out right then.  Jacob's project will collect supplies for this shelter.  Some of the infant stuff he collects will be sent to a Haitian orphanage who is desperate for supplies (The Christmas Box House tries to help them when they can).  Mothers keep lowering their newborns over the walls of the orphanage in the middle of the night.  Overwhelming.

I should also mention that J. drove us to the shelter and back.  Also part of my rough day.

Next, after a chaotic lunch at home, off with the 4 youngest to see the Days of '47 Parade floats at the South Towne Expo Center.  The reason for our visit?  To photograph 15 Ukrainian orphans who were sponsored to come here for three weeks in the quest for adoption.  Beautiful boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 14.  Good thing we had a couple of Russian translators handy.  My volunteer job was to take some great photos of them to circulate far and wide in the search for adoptive families.  The statistics are very bad for those who age out of the orphanages there.  My heart hurts.  I don't really feel like we can adopt, but I can't stop thinking about one little girl, Yulia, age 7.  So sweet. so eager to please and just soaking up any attention given to her.

So many children from near and far with so many needs.  And I just met a few.  I want to rescue them all.

I'm crying thinking of what you saw today.... Wish we could just take them all in and give them all the love and everything they need.
