Click on the map to see it better.  Our home is the blue spot.  In truth, more homes than indicated here were told by law enforcement to evacuate last night.  The fire raged through much of the yellow square area (along with much more acreage not on this map), and as you can tell by the burned homes, into the neighborhoods.  The kids and I evacuated to my parents' home in Draper, but are home now, listening to the helicopters and planes struggling to extinguish what's left.  Spence stayed pending being told to leave.  He saw looters in the evacuated area.  Grateful for the good weather today so we can air out our home.  There was an abundance of dark, heavy smoke blowing our way last night.  It's an amazing exercise to go through your home and decide what to take, what is truly important.  We are counting our blessings and praising the amazing effort put forth by so many to come to our aid.  Thank you all for your concern and prayers.  We've felt them!  Please continue praying for the speedy end to the parts still burning (in our Stake!) and for those who have lost homes and property.  We keep hearing fantastic stories.  What an amazing community.  We love Herriman!!

I'm amazed that the air is clear enough that you can air out your home already. So does the outside air still smell like ash and smoke? Is school canceled for a while? Enjoy some family time if it is!

We had to evacuate in front of a fire when I was in 4th grade. It was an unforgettable experience. Most interesting was that all the households were evacuated to the same place, so we were able to see what everyone had thought was important. One lady arrived with her diamond earrings, but no diapers for her baby. It makes you think like nothing else about what it really means to be prepared.

Glad your home is safe. Sorry it isn't the case for everyone. Sad business.
